Chocoholic... Not-So-Anonymous ;-)
Most people who have spent more than five minutes in my company know that I am an avid chocoholic. It's true. I won't even pretend.
What not everybody knows is that I have extremely high chocolate standards. Not only do I care about the flavour, I care a great deal about the quality of the chocolate that I am consuming.
Long heralded as "The Food of the Gods," chocolate has held a special--perhaps even sacred--place in many of our hearts for time immemorial. Yet, unlike so many other foods that elevate our spirits and tantalize our tastebuds, chocolate has been dubbed a superfood (i.e. a nutrient-rich food considered to be especially beneficial for health and well-being) by nutrition experts around the globe.
Here is what I love about good-quality dark chocolate:
ANTIOXIDANTS--Dark chocolate is virtually bursting at the seams with antioxidants, substances believed to protect cells from damage (which many believe bestow anti-aging benefits ;-)) and help prevent numerous diseases.
MAGNESIUM--Dark chocolate is very rich in magnesium, a nutrient required for over 300 chemical reactions in the body, ranging from helping to lower high blood pressure to easing menstrual cramps.
PPQ--Next to mother's milk, chocolate has the highest known content of PPQ, a type of B vitamin known to improve memory, concentration, attention, information identification, recall, and processing ability.
BLOOD SUGAR FRIENDLY--Due to its high fat content (largely monounsaturated fat, the same heart-healthy fat found in olive oil) and high fiber content, dark chocolate is extremely blood sugar friendly, which helps to keep our energy balanced and our brains focused.
IT'S DELICIOUS!--Food is meant to be enjoyed. If we feel tortured by the foods that we are eating, we are doing something wrong.
Chocolate sounds pretty magical, doesn't it? Perhaps worthy of the handle "Food of the Gods"? Unfortunately, It is a sad fact that not all chocolate is created equal. It, therefore, probably comes as little surprise to the people who know me best that I would decide to carry chocolate in the clinic.
Out of all of the chocolate companies out there, why did I choose to carry ChocoSol?
Firstly, ChocoSol offers a decadent, high-quality product made from clean, natural, and organic ingredients. Although not clearly indicated on the labeling, company representatives have assured me that all of the sugars used in their product formulation are unrefined. This is of great nutritional value because it means that all of the minerals naturally contained in the sugar cane stalks, coconut sap, maple syrup, etc. are still intact. The result is that the body doesn't have to use the nutrients gained from other healthy foods in order the metabolize the sugars.
ChocoSol is a Canadian artisan company that oversees production from bean-to-bar. Their bars are stone-ground for approximately 8 hours. This low processing time helps ensure that their chocolate retains the complex and explosive flavour profile of their cacao blends.

Luscious Coconut (70% cacao)
Our creamiest chocolate is sure to win over any coconut lover. Coconut butter and extra virgin coconut oil is ground with the cacao to bring an added level of richness. Coconut sugar is used to offer a low-glycemic option.
Ingredients: stone ground roasted cacao nibs, coconut sugar, cacao butter, coconut butter, coconut oil, vanilla pod, shredded coconut.
Darkness (75% cacao)
Darkness is simple and beautiful. 75% dark chocolate with complex wine, nut, fruit and earth tone flavours. It’s one of the best ways to experience the flavour of our unique cacao blends!
Ingredients: stone ground roasted cacao nibs, organic raw cane sugar, cacao butter, cacao bean.
Five Chili Bullet (75% cacao)
Excite your palate with this traditional flavour combination. A blend of dried chillies is complimented with Mayan forest garden allspice, achiote and is seasoned with Zapotec sea salt. This bullet bites back!

Sinfully Raw Vanilla (82% cacao)
SRV is the best of both worlds – a rich dark chocolate mellowed with whole
