Mud Masks: A Natural Treatment for Radiant Skin

Every month or so, I like to treat my facial skin to a clay mask. So what if I wind up looking like Elphaba, The Wicked Witch of the West? ;-)

Clay has been used to treat the skin for thousands of years. It loosens clogged pores and draws impurities to the surface without dissolving the protective epidermal layer. It absorbs excess oil, refines and softens fine lines and wrinkles, and fades the appearance of hyper-pigmentation and scarring.

Clay sourced from mineral-rich soil provides deep nourishment to help support and strengthen the cells of the skin. It also increases circulation and oxygenation to the surface of the skin.

There are many types of clay to choose from. Two of my favourites are pink clay (wonderful for sensitive skin) and green clay (great for oily and/or problem skin).

TIP: To help prevent an acne breakout from the powerful drawing action of green clay, try Evan Healy's Green Tea Clay, or make your own version by adding a little bit of antioxidant-rich matcha green tea to your green clay powder before mixing it with water and applying it to your face.

Enjoy! And feel free to post clay mask selfies. ;-)
